One job only — trimming narrow edges square and clean.
Construction
The No. 96 is a block-style plane designed to reference off two faces simultaneously — the sole and a side fence keep the iron perpendicular to the work face. Short production run, uncommon in collections today.
Use
Trimming the edges of thin boards — doors, drawer fronts, veneer edges — to a consistent square. The fence prevents skewing. A manual operation that a rebate plane or shooting board partially replaces, which contributed to its short market life.
