The Stanley No.55 is the "planing mill in miniature" — the most complex combination plane from Stanley's production. The interchangeable cutter system theoretically allowed hundreds of profiles and sections.
In this collection the No.55 is represented by two examples — one for parts, one as a working tool.
Complex cast iron body with adjustable skate and fence system, adjustable guide rods and a set of interchangeable cutters for grooves, beads, hollows, rabbets and decorative mouldings.
Highly versatile combination plane for producing a wide range of profiles. Requires practice and precise setup.
This page documents the canonical Stanley No.55.
